Factorio history was made as hundreds of players collaborated to build a record-breaking ‘God Factory,’ achieving an astonishing 1 million science per minute (SPM). Led by the Eternity Cluster project and involving over 400 players worldwide, this monumental achievement more than tripled the previous world record for science production. Normal gameplay typically requires only around 30 SPM to launch a rocket into space, but for these dedicated players, one rocket is not enough. Dubbed “Megabase builders,” their goal is to create as many science packs as possible, turning Factorio into a massive-scale endeavor that feels more like a job than a game.
The success of the God Factory project relied heavily on innovative solutions to overcome the game’s limitations. Factorio has a maximum updates per second (UPS) that restricts the number of machines running simultaneously, posing a challenge for megabase builders aiming for high SPM. To address this, the project utilized Clusterio, a mod that allows multiple instances of Factorio to operate as one interconnected system. This collaborative approach enabled the Eternity Cluster to achieve unprecedented levels of productivity, showcasing both the community’s ingenuity and the capabilities of the Clusterio mod.
Looking ahead, the Eternity Cluster remains committed to pushing the boundaries of Factorio gameplay. With plans to further develop Clusterio and expand its capabilities, the group aims to host more events like the God Factory project seamlessly and at any scale desired. As Factorio players continue to embrace the ethos that “the factory must grow,” the community’s dedication and teamwork promise even more remarkable achievements on the horizon.
